Micah 4 And The Arab-Israeli Conflict

Now it shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and peoples shall flow to it. Many nations shall come and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways and we shall walk in His paths.” For out of Zion the law shall go forth, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. He shall judge between many peoples, and rebuke strong nations afar off; they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. Micah~4:1-3

Israelis and Arabs have an age-old conflict, and it goes back to satan’s original hatred of God. Lucifer wanted to be greater than God, rebelled in Heaven and was expelled, thrown here to the earth to live out his days until Jesus’ Second Coming. His all-consuming hatred manifests itself in all ways imaginable, and Abraham, Sarah, and Hagar are no different. It is jealousy, pure and simple, a love triangle gone wrong.

God told Abraham He would make him a great nation, and Abraham obeyed the Lord for a long time. Sarah, his somewhat elderly wife, was barren. When she finally asked her handmaid Hagar to bear Abraham’s child, Hagar did as she asked and Ishmael was born. Although God did bless Ishmael greatly with his own land, God didn’t look very favorably upon the act of adultery between Abraham and Hagar. Shortly thereafter, Sarah did miraculously conceive a child, who was called Isaac. After some time, jealousy cropped up between Sarah and Hagar, Ishmael and Isaac. Hagar took Ishmael to a distant land to raise her son. God blessed Abraham and Isaac with the land of Israel, and the boundaries are clearly laid out in Genesis 12, 15, 26, and 28.  God clearly tells us in Scripture that Israel is not to be divided.

“The truth is that Jordan is Palestine and Palestine is Jordan,” said King Hussein of Jordan in 1981. “Palestine and Jordan are one…” said King Abdullah in 1948. “Palestine is Jordan and Jordan is Palestine; there is only one land, with one history and one and the same fate,” Prince Hassan of the Jordanian National Assembly was quoted as saying on February 2, 1970.

According to Arab-American columnist Joseph Farah, “Palestine has never existed~before or since~as an autonomous entity. It was ruled alternately by Rome, by Islamic and Christian crusaders, by the Ottoman Empire, and briefly by the British after World War I. The British agreed to restore at least part of the land to the Jewish people as their homeland. There was no language known as Palestinian. There was no distinct Palestinian culture. There has never been a Palestine governed by the Palestinians. Palestinians are Arabs, indistinguishable from Jordanians (another recent invention), Syrians, Lebanese, Iraqis, etc.”

It is sad to see that brothers, even after all these years, are still not getting along. There is absolutely no reason why Isaac and Ishmael cannot work together to live side by side in peace. This was God’s intention when He gave land to both of His children, not the division we see now. If the sticking point is Jerusalem, Jerusalem belongs to Israel. No reason why Arabs can’t form their own land, with their own state capital. No reason why Israelis and Arabs “can’t just all get along”. People, we are human beings. God gives us so much and look at what we do with it. Let’s stop, and live. Live and let live. No more need to die on either side. Hamas has made negotiations with Israel impossible, because they refuse to recognize the right of Israel to even exist. Because of Hamas, the Arabs suffer. So many people blame Israel when it is Hamas who is to blame. If the Arabs would instead focus on their problem with Hamas, most problems would be resolved. Israel could get aid to them without being attacked. Imagine what it is to be an Israeli who has to worry about everyone around them having a hidden bomb. It has become politically correct to attack Israel, and blame Israel for everything. That is not to say that Israel is blameless, however. There have been wrongs committed by Israel, no doubt. But what Hamas, Hezbollah, and the rest have done to Israel far outweighs what Israel has done. Israel is attacked, and she retaliates. If the true peacekeepers would just stand up against the real terrorists here, meaning Hamas, Arabs would be able to live in peace, in Israel. Interestingly enough, I saw a few surveys that the majority of “Palestinian” Arabs would rather live as Israeli Arabs than “Palestinian” Arabs. But they are being manipulated by forces seen and unseen. They are being used for satan’s purposes: his original hatred of God. So Israel gets attacked. This isn’t what God wants. I remain steadfast in prayer that Israelis and Arabs will not let other outside issues break up what may be a way to learn to live side by side.
